Following is a list of Giving Opportunities

Faith Promise

Faith Promise is our annual giving program to alleviate hunger.  It coincides with the Lenten season with a message of renewal and giving, all to aid the hungry both locally and globally.

Easter Lily and Christmas Poinsettia Memorials and Honoraria

Contributions may be made to ministries or various funds of the church in memory or in honor of loved ones and friends whose names are listed in the Easter and Christmas Sunday bulletins.  A portion of the contribution is used for the special chancel flowers.

United Methodist College Scholarships

FUMC has two designated college scholarship funds set up specifically for members of our own youth group.  The first is United Methodist Dollars for Scholars.  This fund provides $1,000 to one First Church Youth attending a United Methodist college. The second fund is the Nell Frost Scholarship which will award a total of $1,000 to one student attending any non-Methodist college.  The recipients are chosen by the youth scholarship committee.

Youth Ozark Mission Project

Every summer youth and adult leaders of FUMC participate in OMP, a “camp” for young people who are dedicated to improving a community by donating labor during summer vacation.  FUMC members support OMP by donating money for camp fees and also by purchasing shares of OMP “stocks.”

Annual Fall Stewardship Campaign

Giving one’s prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness to and through the church emphasizes living as a Christian steward.  For several weeks each fall, FUMC members are asked to reflect prayerfully on their financial gifts and pledges for the following year.  It is a joyful time of celebrating the blessings of our church’s ministries both in the community and worldwide.

Alternative Christmas Market

Held in November, the Market gives the congregation the opportunity to purchase meaningful Christmas gifts while supporting local and global missions.  The Fellowship Hall is filled with market stalls that offer gifts such as rice baskets from Arkansas Rice Depot and funds to buy animals such as goats and chickens or even shares in a water buffalo from Heifer Project, International.  Shoppers may also donate to ministries within the church in honor of a loved one or friend.

Caring Christmas

Volunteers coordinate buying, collecting and distributing gifts at Christmastime to families of our Child Development Center.  As many as 160 families are blessed with a special Christmas.

Communion Sunday Benevolence Fund

The sacrament of Communion is shared regularly at FUMC on the first Sunday of each month.  Gifts left at the communion rail or given to the church for this purpose is used by the staff Director of Missions and Outreach to help those in need who come to the church office during the week.

Memorials, Honoraria and Designated Gifts

Financial gifts are given to the church in memory or in honor of loved ones and friends.  These contributions may be designated to a specific ministry of FUMC or may be directed to the First Church Perpetual Endowment, the CDC Endowment, or other endowed funds. Or they may be directed to any of the five non-endowed Faith Funds, which are for Landscaping and Beautification, Windows Preservation, College Scholarships, the John Woodruff Fellowship for Social Change, or the Annual Lecture Program.

Bequests and Planned Gifts to Foundation Faith Funds

First Church benefits from the generosity of many members who have left bequests in their wills so that its Perpetual Endowment, the CDC Endowment, and several designated, named funds will continue to grow and provide funds for capital expenditures, special projects, and other non-operating budget needs.  Members who state that they have left such a bequest are recognized through the “First Promise Bequest Society.”

Giving is easy at First Church:  One can give by placing cash or a check in an envelope in the offering plate, noting the purpose for which the gift is given.  Checks should be mailed to the church:  723 Center Street, LR, 72201.  It is easy to request a regular bank draft gift, or to make a credit card gift  via the internet through the website in the Online Giving Page.
