Raising of America

Join us for conversations around the documentary series The Raising of America.  This six week series is in keeping with our THRIVE initiative as it explores how a strong start for all our kids can lead to a healthier, more prosperous and more equitable America.  Sunday mornings, starting on January 15th, Darlene Kurtz will facilitate discussions surrounding early childhood and the future of our nation.  It is an excellent documentary series and topic that has implications for us all.  We’d love to add your voice to the conversation as we meet in room 205.  Hope to see you there.more...

Things we tell ourselves...so we can sleep at night.

Life brings all kinds of questions. Why do good people suffer? What is God’s plan? Is the only path to joy through suffering? Is God trying to tell me something? These kinds of questions make us lay awake at night. So in order to sleep, we make up answers to tell ourselves. Things like; “It’s all part of God’s plan” “Where God guides, God provides,” “God works in mysterious ways,” and even “The Bible tells me so.” These answers sound good and often pacify us for a little while, but they don’t explain the complexity of life and the depth of God. Perhaps there are greater answers to these questions—or maybe more questions.

Join us for a 6 week series beginning January 15th called “Things we tell ourselves…so we can sleep at night.” Each week we will unpack some of these easy answers to hopefully find a deeper understanding of God and the life God has given us.

January 15: It’s all part of God’s plan, Luke 22: 39-46

January 22: #blessed, Matthew 5: 1-11

January 29: Where God guides, God provides, Exodus 16: 1-16

February 5: It’s a sign from God, Judges 6: 36-40

February 12: God works in mysterious ways, Numbers 22: 21-35

February 19: The Bible tells me so, Luke 4: 16-30more...
