Harvest Festival - October 29th

It’s that time of year again!  First Church will be heading west to Rush and Linda Harding’s farm located at 24311 Kanis Road in West Little Rock for our Harvest Festival.  This event is always a lot of fun!  Food will be served, so we need your RSVP.  Please go online and register at www.fumclr.org/registrations or fill out the Journey Card on your announcement sheet or bulletin this Sunday. In the event of inclement weather, an email will be sent to all those that registered online, and announcements will be made Sunday morning and on Facebook.  We look forward to a wonderful afternoon of food, fellowship & fun!more...

Neighborhood Gatherings

A few weeks ago you should have received a letter in the mail inviting you to a Neighborhood Gathering. These meetings in various homes are a time to share how God is bringing our vision to life at FUMC and ways you can further empower that work. We are trying to get as many people to these gatherings as possible, so make a reservation by contacting Christi Harper in the church office at 501-372-2256 or charper@fumclr.org. Also, if you are unable to attend the Gathering (in your neighborhood) listed in your letter, or if for some reason you did not receive a letter in the mail, please call the church, and we'll find one you can attend. Pray for Las Vegas

When we have no words or clarity of thought, the scriptures may be our voice...
“So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture: They kill us in cold blood because they hate you. We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one. None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. Words do not capture the heartbreak coming from Houston and southeast Texas right now. As I'm sure many of you have been, I've spent the past couple of days checking in with friends and family that live in those areas. Like many of you in these kinds of disasters, I'm frustrated that I can't do anything to help directly. Back to school is a big time in the life of a community. It’s more than just buying school supplies and fresh haircuts for kids. It means new schedules for families, long hours for teachers and administrators, exciting new opportunities for students, and longer commutes for everyone. Back to school is an important time for all of Little Rock, even if you don’t have grade-school aged kids.more...

Back-to-School School Supplies for Teachers

As school lets out, our teachers look forward to a well deserved summer break! But as they pack up their classrooms, you can be assured they are already making a list of things they will need in August. Many of these things will fall outside their allotted budget for classroom supplies, so how will they pay for any extras? If a teacher needs a new rug, it might take time to save up. If we at FUMC can help our partner teachers with the necessities, maybe they can afford extras that make learning fun! Yellow collection school buses have been set up outside the main office and in the children's wing beginning. Give generously as teachers are the trainers for our country's future.more...
